Preschool / Kindergarten Curriculum Overview
Futures Behavior Therapy Center uses a scientific teaching approach based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Our curriculum guide consists of 20 core learning areas (i.e. math, social skills, language, behavior) and over 300 objectives (i.e. decreasing self-stimulatory behavior, counting to 50, engaging in a conversation with a peer) that were chosen based upon the Massachusetts Curriculum frameworks, the Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences, as well as PHD and Master’s level guidance and consultation provided by speech, occupational, physical and behavior therapists. After assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each student, the 300 objectives are broken down into individualized curriculum using errorless learning, discrete trial training and prompt fading methods. After the objective is mastered at a table (using discrete trial/errorless learning), the curriculum has a strong focus on mastery of the skill in four additional environments. These four environments include 1:1 table work using functional materials (least to most teaching approach), the social environment with peers, the community setting and the home environment. This curriculum uses a combination of effective research based methods which enables students to work at their own pace and generalize skills throughout their entire day.
